In short

The Garmin Connect app on iPhone can't save activity files. Download the file from the Garmin Connect website, unzip it in Files and choose it in KinoLap. Strava or Apple Health can skip the file.

Download the file

  1. On your iPhone, open Safari and go to connect.garmin.com. Sign in with your Garmin account.
  2. Open Activities and tap the activity you want.
  3. Tap the gear icon at the top right and choose Export Original.
  4. Safari saves a ZIP file to Downloads. Open the Files app, go to Downloads and tap the ZIP once. Files unpacks it into a folder with a .fit file inside.
  5. In KinoLap, open Profile › Imported files, tap Choose files and pick the .fit file.

Checked 9 October 2026, and Garmin may change its website. If the menu is missing on your phone, tap aA in Safari's address bar and choose Request Desktop Website.

Export to GPX and Export to TCX also work and download without a ZIP. The original FIT file keeps the most: heart rate, cadence, power and the watch model. On a computer the steps are the same. Move the file to your iPhone with AirDrop or iCloud Drive and keep it in Files.

Skip the file

If Garmin Connect already sends your activities to Strava, connect Strava in KinoLap and new activities show up on their own. Garmin Connect can also share workouts with Apple Health, in the connected apps settings. A workout then makes a map video only when its route reached Apple Health, so open the workout in the Health app to check.

If the import fails

  • "… isn't a GPX, FIT or TCX file we can read": you probably picked the ZIP. Tap it in Files first, then pick the .fit file inside.
  • "… is too short to make a video": the activity is under 30 seconds or under 50 metres.
  • "… is already imported": KinoLap already has this activity. Find it in the Activities tab.
